Burn Calories Gardening

Five ways to burn calories gardening is easier than you think. Gardening is a great form of exercise. It is a great form of exercise because it requires your body to do a lot of bending, squatting, pushing, twisting, lifting and pulling. To make sure you get the best workout from gardening and burn calories, I suggest you  follow the five tips below!

Eat a Healthy Meal

When you garden, you burn calories. As a result, you want to make sure that you have enough energy. I suggest eating foods like eggs and a banana or salmon and broccoli one hour before gardening to give you that energy. These type of foods give you the energy you need for gardening and are metabolic enough to help burn calories.

Although gardening requires squatting, you want to make sure you do them right. I suggest you sit your butt back and keep your chest facing forward while squatting. This will ensure that your weight is in the right place on your body to prevent injury. The leaning back chair squat is the position I suggest for the majority of your gardening activities.

Use Your Entire Body

Oftentimes, when people garden, they only use certain muscles. For example, if you are pulling weeds, you might just bend over from your waist. However, this can be dangerous. I suggest you either lunge or squat to grad onto weeds, stay in that position, and then use your back, biceps and stomach to pull them from the ground. This is a great way to burn more calories by using your upper body muscles too!

Jog the Wagon Instead of Walking It

If you are using a wagon to collect things, instead of walking them to their destination, I suggest you do a  light jog or sprint. This could end up giving you an extra 25 to 50% more calorie burn over the course of a couple of hours.

Treat Gardening Like Exercise

Last, but not least, is to treat gardening like exercise. It is funny what the mind will achieve will you focus on more than just the task at hand. You can do this by giving yourself time periods to get certain things done. For example, tell yourself you only have 30 minutes to finish planting four rows of tomatoes. This will get you moving faster and as a result, working harder just like you are exercising in a gym, plus you will burn calories like a boss!
